Pamekasan student wins math contest in Romania
Alyssa Diva Mustika, a student from Pamekasan Junior High School, East Java, won the gold medal at the International Mathematics Contest held in Romania between March 22 to 29, Antara news agency reported.
Speaking to journalists, Diva said she was glad that she had been able to win the competition, which she said had been very tight. “Thank God I won. I will study harder,” she said.Indonesia sent 10 students to the competition in Romania.
Diva is not the first Pamekasan student to win an international science competition. Oktavian Latief, a student from SMA Negeri 1 Pamekasan won gold at the International Physics Olympiad in 2006. Another student, Shohibul Maromi, won the same award in 2010.
“I thank Diva for giving a good name to Indonesia and Pamekasan on the international stage,” Pamekasan Regent Kholilurrahman said as quoted by Antara.

Floods In Mayong

Floods had devastated Mayong and welahan district , jepara central Java on last January 28, 2014. This is the second hit after a huge floods hit mayong a week before.
According to Mr. Rozi, a floods victim from pelemkerep village of Mayong district, the second hit was bigger than the first one. He said that the first flood happened on Tuesday night, January 21, 2014. water started to rise at 7 p.m , while the second floods that happened on Tuesday January 28 was started in the morning. He said that the second floods ruined many buildings including houses, schools, and many more. Furthermore, because the second floods hit in the morning when people were at work, there were many house appliances that could not be saved including electronic appliance, Mr. Ronzi added. The floods were caused by rain for more than 2 days and some levees that destroyed in some parts of mayong.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Woro Wulandari, a school teacher living at Mayong said that she was at the office when the second floods hit Mayong. She left her office at 9 a.m. in the morning to her house. She said that it was difficult to get to her house because floods was everywhere from Pecangaan district until Mayong District. it needed almost 2 hours to get to her house. Further more, Mrs.Woro added that the floods that hit her house was more than 1 and a half meter hight. The first thing to do when she got home was saving her children. She asked her children and her family to stay at the second floor of her house.
Mrs.Wiharti, a 63 years old lady living at Pelemkerep Mayong said that this floods was the biggest that ever happened during her live.

From the video, we can see floods that happened at Mayong street. The floods forced traffic from Jepara to Kudus to be stopped for almost 4 hours.
People were walking slowly and helped by others to cross the street.
Many vehicles were trapped by the floods and forced the driver to left their vehicle.

It was reported that many resident from mayong and welahan, jepara left their home and move to safe place such as mosque, school and many government building. SMA Negeri 1 Welahan was set to be place for refugees for 4 days. According to Mr. Cahyo Purwono, headmaster of SMA Negeri 1 Welahan, there were a 1000 refugees staying at SMA Welahan from Tuesday until Sunday.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lulus Suprayetno, Head of Jepara BPBD or Jepara Disaster Prevention Board, said that the floods and lanslide happened at several district in Jepara including Mayong, Welahan, Pecangaan, and Jepara Kota this year. It caused lost more then 82,39 billion rupiahs. Furthermore, Jepara government spent more than 2 billion rupiah to overcome the disaster.
